Er was extreem veel sneeuw gevallen. Het in de zomer gebouwde terras zweefde normaal zo’n 50 cm boven de tuin, maar was nu veranderd in een holle ruimte in een dek van sneeuw. In één van de onstane sneeuwranden was een vuurtje gemaakt. Ondanks de extreme levensgevaarlijke kou, was er in Hållsta een verwarmende plek van huizelijkheid gecreëerd. Daar was het veilig, 100 meter verder was de kou binnen een uurtje dodelijk.

Zijn gespannenheid was overgegaan van periodiek naar constant. Zijn ademhaling was hoog, en zelfs de nachten brachten niet meer de nodige ontspanning. Het was onmogelijk geworden nog normaal te functioneren, en daarom was hij tijdelijk gestopt met alles. En toen ervoer hij iets wat hij nog niet eerder had ervaren. De veiligheid van rust en huizelijkheid. Zijn kinderen waren van bron van onrust getransformeerd naar reden van bestaan, naar gezelligheid en knusheid.

De knetterende trompetten speelden een gevaarlijke kwartenstapeling. Zijn vader zuchtte naast hem op de tribune dat dit toch gewoon écht niet mooi was. De drummer gaf nog eens extra gas en de pianist leek met opzet de dissonanten te zoeken. En toch was er de schoonheid van de melodie, van het samenspel. De warmte van de harmonie ontdooide de ijzige kwartenligging. Van totale ritmische spanning naar de huizelijke warmte van een prachtig gespeelde melodie. Hållsta Suite.
